| Meaning. The the evolutions are best conceived of as the sum total of instances of structure formation, maintencance, modification, and dissolution. In fact, they build upon an alternation of structure and process: structures interact with the result of structures dissolved, changed, regulated, or brought about. Obviously, new structures, indeed the whole process is neither predetermined by design or plan nor simply random; rather the structures and their possible effects in the interactive encounters become in some sense incorporations of the very history of the structures involved in their becoming. This constitutes some degree of continuity and consistency of the evolutive process; at the same time Once structures of a certain complexity are attained, their interaction will, in spite of no law of the behavior of their elementary components being hurt, also be determined by substructures of them which, having co-evolved, can recognize and count on the potentials of the interacting structures. This “knowledge” incorporated and used by structures genuinely interacting — from large molecules, organelles, celles, organs, organisms, and parts of their genuine environments — allows for transactions between affine structures that cannot be explained by the qualitites of their elementary constituents but rather results of their evolutive history. Thus genuine evolutions are founded in what is ordinarily called “meaning”. The concept of meaning used here, evidently is not dependent on brain or mind related structures (this being just a special case of meaning) but, more generally, is based on the possibility that structures are taken and used by other structures for the sake of hidden qualities or potentials only recognizable by structures which have an at least partly common origin.
